Alpha Announces New Contract and Increased Market Share with Largest U.S. Wireless Handset ManufacturerWOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2000--

Growing Penetration in RF IC Switches and Power Amplifiers

Alpha Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: AHAA) announced today that it is now shipping record numbers of its advanced gallium arsenide (GaAs) RF IC switches and GaAs power amplifiers under a new contract with the largest U.S. manufacturer of wireless telephone handsets.

"Alpha is growing its business at its largest customer. Our success with this customer and with other major handset manufacturers is built on our innovative products and our intense focus on their needs," said Chris Conlin, Alpha's Director of Worldwide Sales. "This contract confirms that we are succeeding on both counts. The new contract substantially increases our share in RF IC switches and power amplifiers, compared with last year's contract. In particular, it provides us with an increase of 40% in market share for the RF IC switches that our customer uses in its wireless handsets, and we are shipping increasing volumes of our GaAs power amplifiers into their fastest-selling handsets. Alpha has semiconductors in virtually all handsets manufactured by our customer, and in most cases, we are the primary supplier.

"We are shipping more than 20 different types of GaAs RF IC switches, a significant percentage of which were developed in the last year. Our penetration of this customer with RF IC switches is continuing to increase. Our newest generation of ultra-high efficiency PHEMT switches is shipping in volume, and they are being incorporated into the newest phones, which are capable of enhanced data and Internet access. The increasing efficiency and price leadership of our advanced RF IC switches continues to gain us market share, and we see more handset OEMs converting to GaAs IC switch technology."
