Maxon Selects Skyworks' Direct Conversion Transceiver and Power Amplifier for New GSM/GPRS Cellular HandsetsWOBURN, Mass., Feb 18, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Maxon Pairs Skyworks' Complete RF System With Intel's "Wireless-Internet-on-a-Chip" Cellular Processor

Skyworks Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced that the company's GSM/GPRS direct conversion transceiver and power amplifier (PA) module products have been selected by Maxon Telecom Corp. Ltd. for integration in new cellular handsets that will also feature Intel's® PXA800F cellular processor.

Maxon's new data-enabled MX-E320 "Entertainment Phone," available by the end of this year, will incorporate Skyworks' second-generation single-chip 8 mm x 8 mm CX74063 direct conversion transceiver and 8 mm x 10 mm CX77315 PA module with integrated power control functionality.

The MX-E320 features two color LCD displays, a built-in digital camera, FM stereo radio, music/video players, Web browsing and exciting new games.

The "Entertainment Phone" is designed and built to run these power-consuming functions smoothly for a unique user experience. Maxon also intends to introduce new models based on Skyworks and Intel technologies that will showcase 3D games and streaming video.

"Skyworks' RF and PA technologies are unparalleled and when coupled with Intel's baseband processor enabled us to optimize our cellular phone architecture to create an entirely new class of entertainment-enabled phones that will allow consumers to experience a variety of emerging applications without sacrificing handset size or battery life," said Hyeon Kim, president and chief executive officer of Maxon.

"We look forward to working with Skyworks on future handset models to deliver feature-rich phones that will enable consumers around the world to experience the next level in wireless communications."

"We're pleased to extend our relationship with Maxon to deliver our field-proven direct conversion transceiver and power amplifier products for their next-generation of GSM/GPRS handsets," said Mohy Abdelgany, vice president of RF Systems at Skyworks.

"Our fully integrated RF solution minimizes board space and power consumption while providing Maxon with the flexibility to combine our products with virtually any baseband solution currently available on the market."

Skyworks' CX74063 advanced direct conversion transceiver architecture reduces the number of external components required to build a mobile handset by more than one-third, significantly reducing the size, cost and power requirements of next-generation GSM/GPRS handsets.

When combined with Skyworks' CX77315 PA module with built-in power control functionality, the company is able to provide customers with a fully integrated RF section in an unprecedented compact footprint.
