Skyworks Expands Family of Wireless Infrastructure Products With Industry's Highest Linearity Direct Conversion Quadrature Demodulator

Skyworks Expands Family of Wireless Infrastructure Products With Industry's Highest Linearity Direct Conversion Quadrature DemodulatorWOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 2003-- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced a single-chip direct quadrature demodulator that significantly reduces the number of components required for building a wireless base station receiver. The demodulator is the industry's first direct conversion product to meet the demanding high linearity requirements of CDMA, WCDMA, GSM, TDMA, TETRA, 2.5G and 3G base stations.

"We're pleased to expand our wireless infrastructure family of linear power amplifier modules, receiver front-ends/down-converters, and dual fractional-N-frequency synthesizers with the addition of this high performance demodulator," said Greg Waters, Skyworks' vice president of Cellular Infrastructure and Wireless Data. "Utilizing Skyworks' industry-leading direct conversion technology we have eliminated a number of down conversion steps in order to allow our customers to speed time-to-market and ultimately save costs."

Technical Details

Skyworks' SKY73009 single-chip demodulator utilizes direct conversion technology to replace all of the intermediate frequency (IF) signal conversion stages that were required with earlier superheterodyne techniques, along with costly discrete components associated with the extra signal-conversion steps. This high-performance, silicon bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor (BiCMOS), zero-IF design significantly reduces transceiver size, complexity and cost while supporting the stringent performance requirements of wireless infrastructure applications.

The SKY73009's high dynamic range, Second-Order Input Intercept Point (IIP2) of 60 dBm, and Third-Order IIP (IIP3) of 27 dBm make it ideal for use in direct conversion and low IF receivers requiring extremely high linearity. Key features include a wide RF and local oscillator (LO) frequency range of 400 MHz to 3000 MHz, integrated LO balun and buffer amplifier, integrated quadrature phase splitter, and single +3.0 volt power supply operation.

Pricing and Availability

The SKY73009 direct quadrature demodulator is available now. It is packaged in a 32-pin leadless grid array (LGA), and priced at $7.89 each in quantities of 10,000.
