Skyworks Introduces the Industry's Most Highly Integrated RF Transmit Front-End Module

Skyworks Introduces the Industry's Most Highly Integrated RF Transmit Front-End ModuleWOBURN, Mass. Feb. 10, 2003 - Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today introduced the world's most highly integrated RF transmit front-end module for quad-band GSM/GPRS cellular handsets. The new SKY77500 cuts costs and size requirements while reducing the time-to-market for new phone designs.

The new SKY77500 cuts costs and size requirements while at the same time reducing the time-to-market for new phone designs.

Designed with cost and space savings in mind, the SKY77500 module combines the company's industry-leading power amplifier (PA) module and switch functions into a single low-cost, 8 mm x 10 mm laminate-based multi-chip module (MCM), 40 percent smaller than alternative solutions. Key features of the new transmit front-end module include a high performance quad-band PA with current sensing power control, high-linearity transmit/receive switches and all associated filtering, duplexing and control functions. Further, the new module requires no external matching components.

"Our front-end transmit module's high level of integration provides our handset customers with an extremely compact transmitter solution that reduces BOM count, greatly simplifies phone design and dramatically speeds time to market," said Klaus Buehring, Skyworks' vice president of power amplifier products. "Skyworks is the only company currently manufacturing all of these critical components and is uniquely positioned to deliver this module with the performance and price demanded by the handset industry. This ability enables us to achieve the optimum trade off of technologies and allows us to provide the industry's best overall cost, performance and size."

In addition to the SKY77500's high level of integration and cost effectiveness, Skyworks' module provides exceptional power-added efficiency at the handset level. Manufactured using Skyworks' proprietary heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) power amplifier process and low-loss pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT) switch technologies, the SKY77500 delivers superior handset talk and standby time.

Skyworks' SKY77500 module is available in sample quantities now and will begin volume production in the third calendar quarter of 2003. It is priced at $4.50 in volumes of 100,000.
