Alpha (NASDAQ:AHAA) today announced that it has been selected to provide GaAs semiconductor components to Digianswer, a leading provider of Bluetooth-enabled wireless technology to the OEM market.
"Alpha's role as a key wireless communications supplier has expanded as the wireless markets have evolved from voice-only to a combination of voice, data, video and Internet connectivity," said Chris Conlin, Alpha's director of worldwide sales and marketing. "Bluetooth represents an exciting new direction for wireless technology, and over the past year Alpha has extended its wireless leadership into the Bluetooth market, capturing key design and production contracts with some of the world's largest personal computer OEMs."
"Our relationship with Digianswer represents yet another key Bluetooth production win for Alpha," Conlin continued. "It demonstrates that our continuing technology advancements have positioned us at the forefront among suppliers in emerging wireless data markets, including 3G."
"We are pleased that Digianswer has selected an Alpha solution in this highly competitive marketplace," said Dave Fryklund, general manager of Alpha's plastic MMIC products. "Digianswer clearly recognizes the Alpha advantage. Our newest generation GaAs MMIC PHEMT technology provides the optimum mix of high performance, small size and attractive pricing for Bluetooth radio applications. In addition, Alpha has the production capacity and product support capability necessary to partner with fast-growing wireless broadband leaders as their needs continue to evolve."
"Industry analysts predict that the worldwide market for Bluetooth-enabled products could exceed 400 million units annually by 2003," Conlin said. "Our leadership in GaAs MMIC semiconductor technology positions Alpha to participate in this market growth."
