(Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete semiconductor system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced that the company's GSM/GPRS single-chip direct conversion transceiver has been selected by Compal Communications Inc., a leading Taiwan-based Original Device Manufacturer (ODM), for new tri-band handsets which will be sold in China under a private label.

Beginning next month, Compal Communications' new handsets will highlight advanced features such as Class 10 Web browsing, high-quality color LCD displays and Chinese characters.

"Skyworks' transceiver offers a tremendous cost savings when compared to other solutions and is an integral part of our GSM and GPRS handset products, allowing us to provide power-efficient solutions to our customers," said Henry Lee, senior vice president at Compal Communications. "Our first handsets including Skyworks' direct conversion transceiver will begin ramping next month."

"We're pleased to extend our relationship with Compal Communications to include our direct conversion transceiver within their emerging platforms," said Mohy Abdelgany, vice president of RF Subsystems at Skyworks.
