CONEXANT ANNOUNCES WCDMA RF SUBSYSTEM FOR
3G HANDSETS

New Subsystem Provides Manufacturers with
Cost-effective Migration Path from GSM to 3G Handsets

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 11, 2001 — Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced a complete radio frequency (RF) subsystem for wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) handsets. WCDMA is a third generation (3G) mobile wireless technology that supports voice and multimedia services such as graphic presentation of data, streaming audio and video, and high quality music downloads. A global standard, WCDMA builds upon and extends the capability of 2.5 generation global system for mobile communications/general packet radio service (GSM/GPRS) networks.

Conexant's highly integrated, four-chip WCDMA RF subsystem solution includes a transmitter (CX74040), receiver (CX74041), synthesizer (CX74038), and power amplifier (CX77113). The new offering can be used in conjunction with Conexant's GSM RF subsystem, providing handset manufacturers with the option of developing multiband, multimode GSM/WCDMA handsets, simplifying integration and manufacturability. As an added benefit, the chipset is compliant with a wide range of baseband application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), affording manufacturers the flexibility to choose the best solution for their precise needs.

"Our new WCDMA RF subsystem provides handset manufacturers with a design solution that supports a smooth segue from GSM to WCDMA, and is a fundamental step forward in facilitating the migration to next-generation 3G networks," said Moiz Beguwala, senior vice president and general manager for Conexant's Wireless Communications Division. "Our in-depth experience with all major, globally accepted digital cellular standards, coupled with our comprehensive RF expertise enables us to offer our customers advanced solutions that enhance their ability to deliver affordable, innovative and feature-rich handsets to consumers worldwide."

Pricing and Availability

Conexant's WCDMA RF subsystem is sampling now, and volume production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2001. It is priced at $14 per chipset in quantities of 10K.

Using advanced process and packaging techniques, Conexant offers a broad range of wireless solutions that satisfy both terminal and infrastructure demands. Conexant provides power amplifiers, RF components and RF subsystems for the world's major wireless communications standards including Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), as well as a complete system solution including the protocol stack and other software for GSM. Bluetooth and GPS products are also offered.
