CONEXANT'S BLUETOOTH™ LINK MANAGER
RECEIVES 1.1 CERTIFICATION

Approval Results in Fully Certified Baseband
Hardware and Software Solution

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., — August 21, 2001 — Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced that its Bluetooth™ Link Manager achieved compliance with the Bluetooth SIG specification 1.1 and is listed on the official website. Link Manager is protocol software that performs link setup, security and control, and is integrated with Conexant's CX81400 baseband processor, which achieved 1.1 certification this June.

"This certification marks the completion of our current Bluetooth baseband product, and supports our objective to ramp volume production quantities this fall," said Desmond O'Donnell, senior Bluetooth product line manager for Conexant. "Bluetooth technology continues to gain support worldwide, and our low-power solution is an ideal fit for portable devices that require extended battery life and a small form factor."

The CX81400 integrates all modem-specific functions as well as on-chip read-only and random-access memory, which eliminates the need for external components such as flash memory, thereby reducing the manufacturer's overall cost. The device supports either universal asynchronous receive transmit (UART) or universal serial bus (USB) HCI transport layers, and full master-to-seven slave piconet communications. The device is also designed to meet the full Bluetooth-specified asymmetric data rate of 721Kbps and to support three synchronous connection-oriented link voice channels. The CX81400 is fabricated using a state-of-the-art 0.18-micron CMOS process, and it is enclosed in a 160- or 100-pin FPBGA package.
