Quanta Selects Skyworks' Direct Conversion Transceiver for GSM/GPRS Handsets; Integrated Chip Supports Data Access to Worldwide GSM and GPRS Networks
WOBURN, Mass., Jul 30, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete semiconductor system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced that Quanta Computer Inc., a Taiwan-based global leader in PCs and notebook computers, has selected Skyworks' single-chip radio frequency (RF) direct conversion transceiver for its global system for mobile communications (GSM) general packet radio service (GPRS) platform-based products. These new Quanta products will provide mobile users with state of the art voice and data services on the worldwide GSM/GPRS networks.
Skyworks' CX74017 advanced transceiver eliminates costly intermediate-frequency (IF) conversion steps, while reducing the number of components that are required to build the latest multi-band GSM/GPRS handsets. This will enable Quanta to cost-effectively meet package size requirements while supporting reliable, high-speed data connectivity on GSM/GPRS wireless networks.
"We're pleased that Quanta, a leading supplier of personal computers and mobile handsets, has selected our direct conversion transceiver for their emerging platforms," said Mohy Abdelgany, Skyworks' vice president of RF systems. "With this key win, we now have 20 customers worldwide with 35 designs based on our single chip solution."
"Skyworks' transceiver offers a tremendous cost savings when compared to other solutions and is an integral part of our GSM/GPRS handset products, allowing us to provide power-efficient solutions to our customers," said Georges Boulloy, senior vice president and general manger of Quanta's Wireless Business Unit. "Their breakthrough on direct conversion transceiver technology is ideal for cost, power and size applications such as our handset products, and we're pleased to leverage their first class support and system expertise to enable quicker time to market."
