Skyworks Captures an Increasing Number of GSM/GPRS PA Module Sockets at Samsung; Initially Designed Into More Than A Dozen New Handsets

Skyworks Captures an Increasing Number of GSM/GPRS PA Module Sockets at Samsung; Initially Designed Into More Than A Dozen New HandsetsWOBURN, Mass--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2004--Skyworks Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced the company's iPAC™ power amplifier (PA) module has been integrated into multiple, new, feature-rich handsets being shipped by Samsung Electronics worldwide.

The iPAC PA is the world's smallest module with integrated power control based on a current-sensing method, which has been proven by industry leaders to be the most power-efficient means of controlling cellular phone transmission signals. Packaged in a low profile, compact 6mm x 8mm module, the SKY77324 provides handset manufacturers with a single-component solution for GSM/GPRS phones, regardless of geographic region or frequency band.

Samsung's SGH-P107 GSM/GPRS handset, an initial Skyworks iPAC-enabled platform within a competing baseband architecture, features a built-in rotating camera, a high-resolution color LCD screen, 40 polyphonic ring tone melodies, MMS services and built-in games. Over the coming months, Samsung will introduce a dozen new models incorporating Skyworks' PA modules.

"We are delighted to have met Samsung's stringent performance requirements and to be extending our PA module presence from leadership in CDMA to now supporting GSM/GPRS. This expanded customer engagement represents a significant incremental revenue opportunity for Skyworks," said Kevin Barber, senior vice president and general manager of RF Solutions at Skyworks. "At the same time, these design wins best illustrate our increasing traction at Samsung as we leverage our complete system solution leadership position to now offer a clear migration path to GSM/GPRS front-end modules, direct conversion transceivers and Single Package Radio implementations."
