Skyworks Introduces the World's Most Highly Integrated 6mm x 6mm GSM/GPRS Power Amplifier Module

WOBURN, Mass., Aug 4, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today expanded its family of industry-leading power amplifier (PA) modules with a 6mm x 6mm x 1.2mm module for tri-band GSM/GPRS cellular handsets around the world.

"The SKY77321 represents the latest in our line of high performance GSM power amplifiers and is the world's most highly integrated PA module under 40-square millimeters," said Klaus Buehring, vice president of Power Amplifier Products at Skyworks. "With the device's small footprint and high level of integration, handset manufacturers will easily recognize a significant savings in board space and design time."

The SKY77321 provides handset manufacturers with a single-component solution for GSM phones, regardless of geographic region or frequency band. The module consists of an EGSM900, DCS1800 and PCS1900 PA block, and 50-ohm fully matched input/output ports to reduce the number of external components required for a tri-band design. It also supports Class 12 GPRS multi-slot operation. Skyworks' devices are based on a 50 GHz gallium arsenide (GaAs) heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) process technology and support GSM handset operation in more than 180 countries.

Skyworks is the industry leader in PA module technology and has an extensive portfolio of solutions that encompass every major wireless standard. According to Gartner Dataquest's June 2003 report "Wireless Communications Semiconductor Competitive Market Shares for 2002," Skyworks held one-third of the worldwide PA module market in 2002.

Pricing and Availability

Skyworks' SKY77321 power amplifier module is available now. Modules are priced at $2.75 in quantities of 10,000.
