Skyworks Powers Compal's Next-Generation Cellular Handsets; Leading ODM Incorporates High-Performance RF Subsystem

Skyworks Powers Compal's Next-Generation Cellular Handsets; Leading ODM Incorporates High-Performance RF SubsystemWOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2004--Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced the company will supply Taiwan-based Compal Communications with its innovative iPAC™ power amplifier (PA) module and newest direct conversion transceiver across a number of next-generation handsets.

Skyworks' iPAC PA is the world's smallest module with integrated power control based on a current-sensing method, which has been proven by industry leaders to be the most power-efficient means of controlling cellular phone transmission signals. In addition, Skyworks' direct conversion transceiver cuts the number of external components required to build an RF section by more than one-half. Leveraging an optimized GaAs HBT process for the PA module and a single-chip, silicon-based direct conversion transceiver, Skyworks has developed a high-performance, field-proven RF subsystem. This unique approach allows customers to significantly reduce their RF footprint, minimize power consumption and lower their bill of materials for next-generation multi-band GSM/GPRS handsets with a clear roadmap to EDGE implementations.

"Skyworks is a valued supplier with the unparalleled ability to deliver size, power consumption, cost and time-to-market advantages when compared to other solutions," said Henry Lee, president of Compal Communications. "We have had outstanding success with Skyworks on earlier designs and now are extending our relationship across several very small and power-efficient handset models. We look forward to working with them on future wireless platforms."

"We are particularly pleased to have earned complete RF subsystem designs from Compal by delivering faster design cycles, richer feature sets, improved system efficiency and superior customer support, as well as substantial overall cost savings," said Mohy Abdelgany, vice president of RF Solutions at Skyworks. "These significant design wins further strengthen our relationship at another key ODM and solidify our position as a leading, volume supplier of highly integrated RF solutions."
