Skyworks Ramps Volume Production of Helios(TM) Mini EDGE Radio for Samsung; Top Tier OEM Leveraging World's Smallest Complete Dual-Chip Radio; EDGE Solution Gaining Traction with Other Leading Handset Manufacturers
"We are delighted to be supporting Samsung with our highly integrated radio solution, particularly as they ramp production of their EDGE handsets," said Brian M. Daly, vice president of marketing for Mobile Platforms at Skyworks. "Skyworks' Helios radio platform is proving to be the architecture of choice, with several tier-one handset OEMs incorporating this design. Our technology strategy and roadmap, which pushes the levels of integration and performance, continue to be validated by leading customers."
About Helios Mini
Helios Mini is a complete radio solution for GSM, GPRS and EDGE mobile handset applications that builds on the advantages of Skyworks' first generation Helios product, which contains three chips. It features the company's industry-leading, patent-pending Polar Loop transmit modulation technology, allowing the radio to transmit both constant as well as non-constant envelope signals through the same transmit path. This approach minimizes the number of external components that are required, and improves talk times by as much as 10 percent by increasing power amplifier (PA) efficiency in EDGE mode as compared to conventional architectures. Helios Mini also includes the company's latest single-chip DCR, which works with the subsystem's PA/PAC to create a seamless closed-loop transmit system.
Skyworks is a proven leader in pairing FEM technology with radio functionality, enabling the development of handsets containing advanced features such as color displays, integrated digital cameras, Web browsing and multimedia messaging services (MMSs).
