Skyworks Ships 10 Millionth GSM Chipset Solution; Industry Leader Achieves Milestone with Samsung

WOBURN, Mass., Jul 16, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete semiconductor system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced that it has reached a milestone with the shipment of its 10 millionth global system for mobile communications (GSM) chipset solution to Samsung Electronics.

"This key milestone marks the initial success of our comprehensive design approach," said Murthy Renduchintala, vice president of cellular systems for Skyworks. "We are especially pleased that this shipment was to Samsung, our first system level customer, with whom we have enjoyed a strong relationship from the time they first introduced their popular dual-band 2G GSM handset back in 1999.

"Our successful collaboration with Samsung has since yielded eight high-volume handset designs based on our complete system solution, ramping to more than a dozen by year end."

Skyworks' complete system solution contains all of the necessary semiconductors and software to build a state-of-the art 2.5G GSM/GPRS handset. The hardware portion of the solution implements all front-end, RF subsystem and baseband processing functions. In particular, the system leverages Skyworks' single chip direct conversion transceiver, which eliminates the intermediate-frequency conversion steps of earlier mobile handset solutions. Skyworks' protocol stack and MMI API have been field tested, qualified and approved by GSM network providers around the world.
