Skyworks Unveils Revolutionary HeliosTM WEDGE Transceiver

Enables High-Speed Data Rates, Eliminates the Need for Interstage Filters and is 40 Percent Smaller than Comparable Solutions

Multimode Radio Leverages Company's Strengths across Numerous Air Standards

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2007--Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), an innovator of high performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling mobile connectivity, today introduced its HeliosTM WEDGE multimode transceiver. Its architecture requires no interstage filters in the transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) paths, ultimately saving significant board space, cost and design time, and enables extremely high-speed data communication - - - up to 14.4 Mbps. It also provides flexibility for adopting best-in-class radio frequency (RF) and baseband modems, and is the leading partitioning approach handset OEMs, RF solution providers, and baseband manufacturers throughout the world are increasingly adopting.

Skyworks' HeliosTM WEDGE transceiver is the first of several planned product offerings and addresses several of the main reasons consumers have yet to accept 3G cellular phones in high-volume quantities - size, cost and battery life. Skyworks' HeliosTM WEDGE transceiver is 40 percent smaller than comparable solutions on the market, leaving valuable board space for OEMs to integrate multimedia features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, FM receivers, and DVB-H, and it eliminates two interstage surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters - reducing the overall bill-of-material costs. Through unprecedented levels of integration and innovative circuit design, Skyworks' solution also dramatically improves battery life increasing both talk and download times for consumers.

"With the introduction of our newest transceiver for WEDGE handsets, Skyworks is at the forefront of 3G radio innovation," said Stan A. Swearingen, Skyworks' vice president and general manager. "Our new chipset offers a unique, all-inclusive multimode approach to enable our customers to exceed demanding market requirements as consumers increasingly demand power-intensive multimedia features."

According to Deutsche Bank estimates, EDGE and WCDMA handsets will grow to 773 million units in 2008 - up from 322 million in 2006. Today, Skyworks is a leading provider of EDGE radio solutions to three of the top-tier OEMs. When coupled with the strength of the company's high-volume experience with CDMA radios, Skyworks is uniquely positioned to meet the RF requirements and demands of WEDGE multimode handsets, which require compatibility with both air interfaces.

About the HeliosTM WEDGE Transceiver

The SKY74210 transceiver is fabricated using 0.13 um complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology in a 7 x 7 mm land grid array (LGA) package. The multimode radio uses an innovative software configurable architecture - allowing circuitry to be shared across all available modes. This direct conversion transmitter architecture effectively permits shared Tx EGPRS and WCDMA modes - enabling extremely high-speed data communication. Skyworks' innovative circuit design also makes it possible to eliminate two interstage SAW filters per band, which were previously required to provide adequate isolation in Tx and Rx signal paths.

Drivers are provided so that designers can use separated EGPRS and WCDMA power amplifiers (PA) for optimized efficiency. In addition, the baseband interface is a set of six-wire, high-speed serial ports.

Samples of the HeliosTM WEDGE transceiver will be available in the fourth quarter of 2007.
