World's Leading Supplier of Mobile Phones Selects Alpha's GaAs ICs for New Family of Broadband SolutionsWOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2001--

Alpha Products Are Designed into First Solutions That Make

Wireless Internet Access Viable for Residential and Small-Business Markets

Alpha(NASDAQ: AHAA) today announced that its gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated circuit (IC) products have been selected by the world's leading manufacturer of mobile phones for that company's first-of-its-kind family of broadband solutions. These solutions will enable service providers, competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and fixed operators to rapidly deploy wireless broadband networks in response to exploding demand for high-speed Internet access.

"Our growing relationship with this OEM extends Alpha's leadership position in the broadband and wireless markets," said David Aldrich, the Company's President and CEO. "This production win demonstrates yet again that our growing portfolio of GaAs IC products is ideally suited to meet the worldwide thirst for high-speed communications and bandwidth. It represents another important milestone as we execute our strategy to penetrate the high-growth broadband market and to increase our volume with this undisputed industry leader."

Alpha's production wins announced today include proprietary GaAs-control circuits, digital attenuators and passive products that allow lower power consumption, higher data rates and a more efficient design for the customer's broadband networks. These wireless mesh networks simplify line-of-sight issues in areas such as residential neighborhoods and business parks by routing around obstacles such as buildings and trees. As a result, they can be rapidly deployed in diverse geographical locations and are more robust and far-reaching than existing broadband network solutions.

"With this contract, we have fulfilled one of our first-order strategies - to continue growing our market share with leading wireless and broadband OEMs," said Lj Ristic, Alpha's Vice President of Technology. "With the recent launch of our multi-chip module based Alpha Integration Platform™, our technology roadmap has been aligned to meet the "complete solution" requirements of this and other top-tier customers, and we look forward to winning additional business."
