Skyworks Ramps GPS/GNSS Solutions for Samsung

Enabling High Performance Navigation Functionality in Smart Phones and Tablets; Company Capitalizing on Expanding RF Content in Mobile Platforms

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2012-- Skyworks Solutions, Inc.(NASDAQ:SWKS), an innovator of high reliability analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling a broad range of end markets, today announced that it is ramping global positioning system (GPS) and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) solutions for Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., one of the world’s leading smart phone providers. The Company’s newest devices, which integrate a low-noise amplifier with filtering specifically designed for GPS/GNSS receiver applications, deliver industry-leading performance and are the smallest solutions in the market requiring no external components, allowing manufacturers an easy “plug and play” option.

“This is an exciting new product area for Skyworks, particularly as navigation is becoming one of the fastest growing consumer features for smart phones and tablets,” said Liam K. Griffin, executive vice president and general manager of high performance analog at Skyworks. “By leveraging core capabilities, Skyworks is delivering innovative solutions that help drive better performance and reduce complexity for our customers, while at the same time capturing additional RF content in high-growth markets.”

Global adoption of smart phones continues to be robust, and is quickly being followed by a growing tablet adoption cycle. According to Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. worldwide shipments of smart phones are predicted to reach one billion by 2015, up from approximately 400 million units by the end of 2011. In addition, global tablets are expected to surpass 125 million units by 2015, up from roughly 50 million for the end of December 2011. Embedded GPS/GNSS functionality is expected to be an integral part of these devices.
