Skyworks Powers LG's Increasingly Popular GPRS ChocolateTM Phones
LG's KG800 GPRS ChocolateTM tri-band handset, one of several models, has a touch-sensitive navigation, and features a hidden display and touchpad that glows when activated, thus becoming 'invisible' when not in use. Its award-winning design has proven very popular with consumers, having already sold six million units around the world since it debut in early May 2006 and achieving record sales in many countries. Other features include a high-quality MP3 music player, a multi-megapixel camera with flash and video recording, Bluetooth technology for wireless transmission of voice and data between compatible devices, 128 MB of onboard memory, and a high-resolution liquid crystal display (LCD) screen.
"Skyworks is pleased to be extending its relationship with LG to now include GPRS radios for their highly popular ChocolateTM family," said Brian M. Daly, Skyworks' vice president of marketing. "Given our capabilities across virtually all air interfaces, we are delighted that our integrated solutions enable LG and others to deliver feature-rich phones with sleek designs and innovative technology for today's demanding consumers."
The ChocolateTM has won multiple design and customer satisfaction awards including Europe's Reddot Radius Trophy for the 2006 Design Team of the Year; Germany's iF Product Design Award in 2006 for innovation; the 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for Subscriber Technology Innovation; and the 2006 Mobile Choice Consumer Award.
Through its innovative and proprietary technology, Skyworks is providing radio architectures to several of today's leading OEMs and is the industry's only high-volume supplier across all key air interfaces, namely CDMA, GPRS and EDGE.
About Skyworks' HeliosTM Power Transceiver
The SKY74400 power transceiver is a highly integrated GPRS device for quad-band applications containing a direct conversion receiver and power amplifier (PA) with an integrated PA control (iPACTM) function in a compact, 6 x 11 mm multi-chip module (MCM). The receiver path implements a direct down-conversion architecture that eliminates the need for intermediate frequency (IF) components, while the transmit path uses a translation loop architecture that provides frequency up-conversion with a high-spectral purity within the transceiver and a quad-band gallium arsenide (GaAs) heterojunction bipolar (HBT) PA.
