Skyworks Introduces Ultra-Compact and High-Efficiency Front-End Modules for EDGE; Uniquely Supports All Three EDGE System Architectures

Skyworks Introduces Ultra-Compact and High-Efficiency Front-End Modules for EDGE; Uniquely Supports All Three EDGE System ArchitecturesBARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2006--Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), an industry leader in radio solutions and precision analog semiconductors, today launched two new ultra-compact and high-efficiency EDGE front-end modules (FEMs) for leading mobile handset suppliers. The SKY77512, a quad-band FEM designed for linear modulation, is one of the highest performing and efficient modules on the market. The SKY77519, an FEM that supports open-loop EDGE, is the industry's smallest module for open-polar EDGE. When combined with the company's FEMs for closed loop platforms, Skyworks is the only semiconductor supplier supporting all three EDGE architectures - closed loop, open loop and linear implementations.

"With the introduction of these two innovative FEMs, Skyworks is delighted to offer the complete breadth of solutions for next-generation EDGE handsets," said Brian Daly, vice president of marketing for Skyworks' Mobile Platforms. "Our new FEMs are setting industry standards for performance and integration, and enabling our customers to develop revolutionary phone designs."

About SKY77512

The SKY77512 transmit (TX) FEM is designed in a compact form factor of 8 x 8 x 1.2 mm for quad-band mobile handsets supporting GMSK and linear enhanced data for GSM evolution (EDGE) modulation. Class 12 general packet radio service (GPRS) multi-slot operation is also supported. Two separate heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) power amplifier (PA) blocks are fabricated onto indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) die. The integrated multi-function control (MFC) provides closed loop power control in GMSK mode, reducing sensitivity to input drive, temperature, power supply and process variation. In EDGE mode, the MFC configures the PA for fixed gain, and provides the ability to optimize the PA bias operation at different power levels.

About SKY77519

The SKY77519 is a transmit and receive (TX-RX) FEM designed in a very low-profile compact form factor of 6 x 6 x 1.1 mm for quad-band WEDGE mobile handsets. This FEM supports Class 12 GPRS multi-slot operation and EDGE polar modulation, while also providing an antenna switch through port to support WCDMA Band 1 or 2. A custom silicon integrated circuit contains decoder circuitry to control the radio frequency (RF) switch while providing a low current external control interface. The integrated PA control (PAC) function provides envelope amplitude control by reducing sensitivity to input drive, temperature, power supply and process variation.

Pricing and Availability

The SKY77512 and SKY77519 are available for sampling now and are priced at $3.50 each in quantities of 10,000.
