Skyworks Unveils the Industry's Most Highly Integrated RF Transmit Front-End Modules for CDMA
NEW ORLEANS, Mar 14, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS), a global leader in analog, mixed signal and digital semiconductors for mobile communications applications, today introduced the world's most highly integrated RF transmit front-end modules (FEM) for CDMA, supporting both cellular and PCS frequencies. Skyworks was first to introduce FEM solutions, offering the highest degree of front-end integration for GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets and is now expanding to address CDMA applications.
The SKY77408 and SKY77409 combine the company's best-in-class power amplifier (PA), filter, input/output matching, power detector and duplexer technology into a compact, 5mmx8mm laminate package, saving handset developers significant design time and board space. Nearly half the size of alternative architectures, the new family of CDMA FEMs leverage Skyworks' in-house, low-cost manufacturing capabilities.
"As mobile phone manufacturers increasingly add multimedia and high-speed data services to meet subscriber demand, smaller and more power efficient front-end technology is critical," said Brian M. Daly, Skyworks marketing director for RF Solutions. "Based upon the compelling benefits of our new CDMA FEMs, we look to mirror the tremendous success of our GSM/GPRS/EDGE portfolio which has already shipped more than 40 million units following its debut just two years ago."
About the SKY77408/SKY77409
The SKY77408 and SKY77409 are fully matched, 22-pin surface mount modules that meet the stringent spectral requirements of IS95/IS98 standards up to 25.5 dBm output power, and contain all the circuitry to maximize power detector performance. Integration of the RF front-end greatly simplifies the design of the handset radio, as all critical matching between the filter, PA, power detection and duplexer is optimized within the module. Utilizing Skyworks' proprietary Autosmart technology, the SKY77408 and SKY77409 greatly improve talk time without external bias control, by significantly reducing the RF loss between the integrated components.
The SKY77408 is designed for TX 824-849 MHz/RX 869-894 MHz frequencies, while the SKY77409 is designed for TX 1850-1910 MHz/RX 1930-1990 MHz frequencies.
Pricing and Availability
The SKY77408 and SKY77409 modules are sampling now and will begin volume production in the third calendar quarter of 2005. In quantities of 10,000, the SKY77408 is priced at $3.00, with the SKY77409 at $3.50.
Skyworks at CTIA
Skyworks will be showcasing its leadership technologies and portfolio in Hall E, Booth #5145, during CTIA Wireless, being held in New Orleans from March 14-16, 2005.
