Xinwei Selects Skyworks' RF Subsystem for Local Mobile Handsets; SCDMA Solution Brings Cost-Effective Telecommunications Service to Rural China

Xinwei Selects Skyworks' RF Subsystem for Local Mobile Handsets; SCDMA Solution Brings Cost-Effective Telecommunications Service to Rural ChinaWOBURN, Mass. & HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2004--Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, today announced that Beijing's Xinwei Telecom Technology Company (Xinwei) has selected the company's highly integrated RF subsystem for handsets that will support the Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (SCDMA) standard for wireless access service in China. SCDMA is one of the leading technologies in China's campaign to offer universal telecommunications access throughout the country's rural areas.

"We are pleased to be working with Skyworks to help realize China's ambitious goal of providing affordable telecommunications service, nationwide," said Dr. Chenwei, CEO for Xinwei. "Skyworks has provided us with outstanding support during our design and development program, enabling us to quickly develop multiple new handset and module designs which we will begin selling by the end of this year."

Skyworks' engagement with Xinwei for SCDMA solutions further extends the company's strong presence in China, where 10 of the top 12 handset manufacturers use the company's products.

"We are excited to be playing a pivotal role in helping Xinwei serve the rapidly growing market for cost-effective, entry-level local mobile service in China," said Mohy F. Abdelgany, vice president and business director, RF Solutions at Skyworks. "Our highly integrated receiver and transmitter solution enables Xinwei to manufacture an extremely affordable SCDMA handset that is ideally suited for this important national initiative. We are a proven leader in the development of technology that supports all of China's current and emerging 2.5G and 3G telecommunications standards, and will continue to work closely with Xinwei to support China's rapidly growing cellular telephone market."

Skyworks' SCDMA RF subsystem is one of many solutions the company is selling into the fast-growing Chinese wireless communications market in support of the country's current and emerging cellular standards, including TD-SCDMA, one of three possible 3G standards that China may adopt and a hybrid access technology developed by Xinwei's parent company based on SCDMA.

SCDMA -- also called "Big Smart" wireless phone service -- has been developed primarily by Xinwei, which has partnered with China Netcom, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Railcom to deploy services in rural areas. According to China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII), SCDMA service has been deployed in 106 cities of 16 provinces across China. SCDMA is a highly efficient technology, requiring much fewer base stations to cover the same geographical area than the existing technology currently deployed in China. SCDMA operates in both the 400 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrum, with up to 3-kilometer base station (1800 MHz) coverage, 95 percent success ratio in base station switching, a 100 kilometer/hour mobile speed limit, and 0.05W transmission power.
