Skyworks Solutions, Inc. has introduced two new 2.4 GHz linear power amplifiers for wireless LAN applications. The AP157-317 linear power amplifier is capable of supplying 27 dBm of linear output power with 802.11b modulation at 11 Mbit/s, while the AP163-317 supports 23.5 dBm of linear output power. In addition to having the industry's best output power, the AP157-317 has very low voltage requirements and incorporates surface mount packaging, making the power amplifier well suited for design into WI-FI wireless LANs, 2.5 GHz spread spectrum transmitters, and other devices for ISM band applications.
The AP157-317 and AP163-317 deliver high-end performance over the 1.8 ~ 2.5 MHz frequency range. Complementing the output power is the amplifier's 31 dBm maximum saturated output power. The products also have small signal gains of 18 dB. The amplifiers work at 2.7V to 4.5V, making them excellent for access points and wireless devices that operate at low voltages due to battery constraints, such as notebook PCs.
Skyworks'AP157-317 and AP163-317 amplifiers are each packaged in a 16-pin 4 x 4 mm micro lead package, which is extremely rugged and provides a repeatable electrical connection. This packaging allows designers to realize considerable cost advantages and production benefits.
