CHI MEI SELECTS CONEXANT'S DIRECT CONVERSION TRANSCEIVER FOR GSM/GPRS DATA MODULE

Company Sees Conexant's GSM DCR Technology
As Ideal Customer Solution

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 19, 2002 - Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced that Chi Mei Communication Systems, Inc. has selected its CX74017 single-chip radio frequency (RF) direct conversion transceiver (DCR) for their global system for mobile communications (GSM) general packet radio service (GPRS) data module.

Conexant's CX74017 advanced direct-conversion transceiver eliminates costly intermediate-frequency (IF) conversion steps, while reducing size and power requirements. This enables wireless data module manufacturers such as Chi Mei to meet stringent size constraints and power requirements, while supporting reliable, high-speed data and voice services on GSM/GPRS wireless networks.

About the CX74017

The CX74017 transceiver integrates low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), a quadrature demodulator, baseband filters and a direct current (DC) offset correction sequencer. An integrated low frequency, low-pass filter performs the required tasks associated with rejecting in-band blocking signals and adjacent alternate channels. The transmitter integrates a phase-frequency detector, a charge pump, an offset mixer, high-power transmit voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) and buffers for the required isolation between the RF output IF inputs. The device supports quad-band operation and is an ideal platform choice for serving the various mixtures of GSM/GPRS band requirements. The CX74017 is also a part of Conexant's GSM/GPRS systems solution, which includes the necessary chips for building a state-of-the-art GSM/GPRS handset.
